Consider using US 7 if you think that openness of fabric will work for you because you’ll likely get row gauge with that needle size, based on horiz shrinkage of yarn when blocked and what happened on the US 6 blocked vs unblocked.

My tension on this project appears to be tighter than usual. I’m using a US 7 and it’s still quite firm…

Also, the cast on is a bit of a production Here is a link to better explain the icord cast on:

I followed another Raveler’s suggestion to k through the back loop on the stitches around the yarn overs, to keep them tidy. Given that the holes are on the large side, IMO, I don’t want them to look any bigger due to loose stitches.

I realize that this pattern is through-the-roof popular and there are many gorgeous versions but, man, I’m not enjoying it so far (I’m on Row15-16 section.) Somehow lost a stitch and had to rip back half the work. As of now, it’s a slog. I’m really hoping that the error taught me how to read the pattern so that I don’t have to pay as much attention to the instructions.

Bind off of small version took 7g of SUPER light wool. And it took for freakin’ ever. I like I cord bind offs but this tested me, much like the rest of the knit…

I didn’t know how the grafting of final 6 stitches would work but it did.

I’m am very glad this shawl is done - it’s a really clever pattern which creates an asymmetric half-circle shawl. The fabric is on the bias. It seems like it will sit really nicely and the small in DK weight is a decent size. But I really did not enjoy making it. Here’s hoping it blocks nicely…

I went over on the yarn anticipated I’d need to finish up this Dotted Rays and I only have 44g / 231 yards for the Midtones Shawl (presuming that’s the one I choose to make with the ends of this yarn). Technically, I need 255y but I’ll likely figure out how to make it work…

Preblocked dimensions: 52” on long straight side. Greatest depth - 16.5”

Post-blocking (I should measure it before giving it away):__

I really love the drape and fall of the finished shawl. Quite versatile and I wouldn’t want to make this any bigger than the small size made in DK-weight.

  1. Very clever and cool design

  3. Not my jam. I don't love knitting short rows, even in garter. But I do like their end result.

KristinM100's adjectives for this yarn
  1. Fascinating texture. Very light and airy, though not in a woolen-spun way. But it must have been carded...
  2. The colours are very matte, almost chalky, prob because of how this yarn prep takes dye.
  3. This really is tremendously soft and quite warm.
