Notes

Figure out whether you want to use a US5 the whole way through (or just in the final, open-lace border) - I’ve opted for US5 the whole way.

From garter tab (14 st), you gain 24 st over each eyelet pattern repeat. So, after eyelet repeat 1, you have 38st.

After eyelet repeat 2: 62 st
After eyelet repeat 3: 86 st
After eyelet repeat 4: 110 st
After eyelet repeat 5: 134 st
After eyelet repeat 6: 158 st
After eyelet repeat 7: 182 st

I have 37g as of Eyelet Pattern on pg 5 (starts on Row 37, 230 st.

Prior to the final Fish Eye section, I have 24g. Save 4g for cast off (as others have indicated that more than 3 is required)

After 4 rows (2 repeats) of the final Fish Eye section, I have 20g so it appears that each row takes 1g.

So I’ll be able to do 8 more repeats (or 16 rounds) before binding off.

I didn’t count stitches before BO - and I can’t exactly figure out how many repeats there are by looking, but I did either 9 or 10 2-row repeats on the last section.

I am blocking it aggressively and it is currently pinned with blocking wires to the recommended dimensions (used super wash yarn which loves to stretch).

Final Thoughts: I have to be in the mood for lace or I find it quite tedious. In this instance, the project was very rhythmic and quite straight-forward. I knit it, without too much effort, in under a week. Great stash buster for one skein of sock yarn. Great gift that looks beautiful and luxe but that isn’t difficult.

The pattern and design are both excellent.

I will say that the final fish eye repeat (straight border of the shawl) was hard on the hands. It was only 25% of the shawl, but it took what feels like half the total knitting time. Mind you, if it blocks out beautifully, I’ll forget that pretty quickly!
