Bust the Stash Project 9

21-02-2016

It’s an odd little pattern I’m still getting to know but, after the sort of painful cast on (112 stitches in fingering weight, then joined in the round), it’s fairly straight forward. I’m knitting in magic loop cuz I don’t have a US3 needle with a 16” cable and I really don’t like that length anyway. I find my hands are too big to maneuver. I prefer magic loop, even on a hat.

I’m actually quite pleased with how it’s shaping up on this yarn. Madeline Tosh sock is super lovely yarn.

Tosh doesn’t label by grams (rather it provides yardage) but I’ve estimated that the skein is 100 g (should have weighed it before I used it). I used 29 g of yarn on this hat, approximately 115 yards. I only have about 20 yards left. I was getting nervous about having enough yarn when I did the crown decreases.

In the final analysis, I like this hat and will knit more of them in my Bust the Stash quest. It’s pretty simple and quick, but interesting. It uses only 115 yards (or thereabouts) for the adult XS. It is a pretty small hat (in particular, it’s shallow) for size. I hope I can get an adult S out of 130 yards.
