Notes

Stored in cork bag

Previous version gave me info - I want to use US4 and I have 9g less yarn for the second version than I used on the first version.

Workaround Options:

Option 1. This version can likely be cut back slightly as follows (while still fitting):

10” - Lower Back (aka the back part with buttons to be attached)
16.75” - Front (aka the part with the cables)
Upper Back (aka the part with the buttonholes) - 7” NOTE: at 6” begin the Decrease Row section

Also - this time do the pattern as written and don’t include the extra motif (which you did in the first version). That’ll give you a bit more yarn at access. As a last resort, If I have to, I could do the ribbing (or part of it) in a contrast yarn but note that it would be the ribbing section with the button holes (visible on the outside of the pillow, on the back side).

Option 2. Another option - likely preferable - would be to do the lower back ribbing, at start of project, in a contrast rib. Consider what yarn would be appropriate (worsted, firm). If you do this, you won’t have to adjust the sizing as indicated above (you can use the exact measurements used in the first version, see that project page).

I went with option 2 and used 7g of another worsted for the lower body ribbing and the first (increase) row of stockinette. As I still need to find 2 g of yarn, I’ll make the lower back section (a couple of rows shorter than the first version) AND I won’t do the third cable motif.

So:

Lower back - stockinette until piece plus ribbing measures 9.75”, what the pattern calls for but somehow I knitted 10.25” the first time.

Front section (with cable motif) - 16.75”

Upper back - 7.25” (start the ribbing at 6.25”)

In a strange turn, I’m liking making the second one much more than I enjoyed the first. I mean, I’m still not into home dec knitting, I don’t like the yarn hand and I’m not into cables, but other than that, it’s all good. It helps to know that the finished object will fit, having already made the first.

In the end, I had 4g left (more than enough to sew up the sham but not enough to knit more than about 2 extra rows. Which is why doing the math paid off!) So glad to be done with this yarn.
