At 50 rounds of working the leg (20R 2x2 rib, 30R in stockinette) I’m at 5.5”. I’ll follow the pattern and start the heel flap at this point…

At 6.25” from the very back of the garter heel, begin toe decreases. Pattern suggests starting at 1” from tip of toe but I started closer to 2” because my row gauge is 9R“ and I will knit it over 20R. I suspect the suggestion to start at 1” is to enable some negative ease in the sock (particularly because it is larger and has more mechanical ease given larger stitches). I could have gone shorter but the sock fits nicely and is v comfortable.

These socks knit themselves. I finished the first in about 3 hours?? And they don’t feel particularly thick - though they do feel every bit as sturdy as a fingering pair. It’s amazing how much more quickly 52st on a US2 goes (vs 60/56st on a US1)…

First sock took 34g
Second sock took 35g

Unfortunately, I had to get rid of 25% of the yarn (I’ve saved it for sock mending) because I really don’t like high-contrast marls and a quarter of the ball was black/white or blue/white. As a result, the socks don’t match, but I’m fine with fraternal. I don’t think this yarn is for me but it’s lovely to work with.

  1. Lovely hand
  2. Gotta love marling and crazy colour transitions to knit with this (and I'm not sure I do).
