Notes

I knit left handed from the written.
Any asymmetry is flipped. You will see this most in the knit on edge.

Chart A
There is lace on 2 out of every 3 WS rows.

If you have been using repeat markers, remove them at the end of the chart.

I knit this chart, and in fact almost all shawls, as many people knit entrelac. I kept the RS of the shawl towards me even on purl rows, and did what a lot of knitters call “knitting backwards”. It’s just knitting in the other direction, and I hate purl rows so much that I would rather be lazy and not turn my work if it’s flat stockinette. In this case it helped me with reading my knitting and having the p2tog and ssp in the right places.

Chart B
Watch rows 1 and 7, the first and last decreases are different from the rest of the row.

Any repeat markers will need to move on rows 7, 9, and 11.

Chart C
Completes the center triangle.

Reverse St St I-cord BO
While Romi calls for a needle 2 sizes larger than the one used for the rest of the shawl, for this type of BO on this construction of shawl, I only went up one size, because when I have gone up the 2 sizes, that section of edge feels floppy to me. woman-shrugging

Transition
I do this in 2 steps.

  1. Pick up and count the edge YOs.
  2. Knit the row, and pick up the stitches from the other end of the I-cord.

Chart D
Beads!!!

Watch the edge and center stitches on rows 9 and 19. There are extra increases there.

On rows 10 and 20, check that all Romi markers are correctly positioned.

The written adds repeats on rows 15 and 17.

Chart E
On row 14 of the written, you will be adding repeats.

Watch the center stitch on row 15. It is a cdi.

2nd Transition
Before starting Row 2, I placed markers 22 stitches from each edge and 18 stitches from either side of the central markers.

Chart F
The knit on edge.

For the written, the marker is always before the YO, and all WS rows start with slip stitch wyif, purl 12.
