Notes

After the specs came out, I hade to make a load of swatches to attain a gauge of a little over 8 per inch. Turns out I need 2,75 mm needles. Maybe 3 would even be better, but that would be very uncomfortable knitting ; the yarn looks and feels too thin for that. Maybe I’ll add just a few repeats to the pattern if neccessary.

I had to dive DEEP into my stash to find 2 matching solid colors that I could get that gauge with ; a double lace-yarn and an angora. One is 475 meters / 100 gram (the double yarn) the other 350 meters / 100 grams, (the angora) but there is no difference in how they knit, albeit the red seems a bit HEAVIER….weird…..I will never understand this.

Anyeay, did a bit larger piece of stranded on 2,75 mm needle, and my gauge comes out about 8 1/4 stitches per inch.

Also I found out that my bamboo DPN’s marked 2,5 mm ARE in fact 2,75 mm ; are my Addi’s smaller then “normal” or the bamboos thicker ?? That could of course also explain the different gauges…..

Well, swatch made, yarns selected, let the pattern come out……

Cast on as soon as aI could when the pattern came up, because I will have very little knitting time untill sunday. The pattern seems pretty straightforward so far. Like the cuff. Great way to make a cuff n two colors that still has stretch. Struggling a little with the inside-out knitting, but once I past the cuff, the work started staying in place.

So far, this sock will mainly be a great exercise in knitting less tight.

Today I knitted the cuff, the leg and half (18 rows) of the heel. So far no really new things, although I like the idea of the cuff. One to remember.
I am knitting SO loosely, this sock might actually fit me with a little pulling ;-)

Finished my first sock today befor breakfast - okay, a very very delayed breakfast ;-)

Like the pattern, and I encountered no real problems. Knitting stranded socks inside out greatly helps the fit and keep the flows long at the sides, especially on magic loop.

I am not really happy with the loose picked up stitches alongside the heelflap, but I noticed many socks have this problem, so it may have to do with the way the heel is contstructed.

The pattern is very well written, but the charts are horrible unreadable, due to the print quality, even when enlarged to double size on a computer screen, the numbers are just too fuzzy. Since numbers are pretty important here, I consider that a flaw.

Finished ! Okay, If I did not have to work thursday, friday AND saturday I could have finished them a day sooner, but for me ths was already top-speed, and IF they are approved, I definitely made the next round. So exiting ; so much fun….

I did the second heel better (and nicer) by wrapping the yarns every first and last stitch, and pick up the stitches with both yarns. Wish I’d known that trick with the first heel…..but….something new learned again.

Also learned :
Knitting stranded socks inside out gratly improves the fit, especially at the turn of the needles

For the rest not much new techniques in this sock ; I am by now pretty familiar with stranded knitting, and there were no new cast-ons, cast-offs or constructions involved. Pretty straightforward sock.
