Notes

After finishing the mittens, I thought it would be nice to knit a pair of (matching) socks, sometime in the future.
And since I have a feeling the sock madness may include a looooooooot of waiting time, why sit around waiting if I can get something done already.

I use the corrugated ribbing, and the fair Isle patten from the morphology mits, the rest I’lljust ….figure out while knitting. Write down my ‘pattern’ here for the second sock ;-). Always nice to have them in pairs.

Cuff :
Cast on in dark green 88 stitches, knit 12 rows of corrugated ribbing. Knit 2 light green, purl 2 dark green etc. Work first and last row of cuff in dark color.

Leg :
Next row in dark green increase to (:8) +5 = 45 x 2 = 90 st. Make sure the d-l-l-d stripes come to the SIDES of the sock. (From the chart : front and back are stitch 2,3, 4-11(4x),12-22). Place stitch marker or divide over magic loop needle at beginning of row and after stitch 45.
Knit chart rows 1-35, then repeat from roe 16-36
Decrease 2 x 4 stitches every tenth row (be for and after side stripe).
(86-82- st). (Rows 10, , 30, ).

End leg after pattern row 36 (=16 again). Put first and last stitch of front needle to back needle. On the front needle are 39 stitches for the heel, on the back needle you leave 43 for the foot.

Heel :
Row 1 : knit 1 row alternating colors, start and end with dark.
Row 2 : Turn, purl across each stitch its own color. Slip first stitch, knit last.Make sure yarn crosses over after first/be for last stitch !
Row 3 : slip first, slip all light stitches purl wise, and knit all dark stitches. Weave light yarn along !
Row 4 : purl across as row 2
Repeat row 3 & 4 15 times (30 rows)16 light stitches on top of each other.

Turning heel :
Knit 20, ssk, k 1 , turn
Slip 1, purl 2, p2tog, p1, turn
Slip 1, Knit untill 1 stitch befor gap, ssk, k1, turn
Slip 1, purl untill 1 stitch befor gap, p2tog, p1, turn
Repeat last 2 rows untill all stitches are worked, ending with a purl row. 21 stitches remain.

(Unfortunately this gives a small and turning heel ; there simply are no more stitches to start with)

Gusset :
Knit the 21 stitches, then pick up 18 stitches alongside heel. Pick up extra stitch between gusset and foot (19), knit all stitches of foot in pattern, create extra stitch, pick up 18 stitches alongside heel (XX stitches) .
(you may have to fumble a bit with this to get the colors even. Finish the first row at the end of the heel, not decreasing. You now have 61 sole- and 43 instep-stitches. From there on, start the rows as described below on the instep-side.

Keep on working in pattern, and creating stripes of alternating colors in the gusset.

Round 1 : work all stitches in pattern. Knit the first and last 2 stitches besides foot together. (k2tog at beginning of sole, ssk at end)
Rond 2 : work al stitches in pattern.
Work these rows 15 more times, untill there are 29 sole stitches (to begin and end role with a dark stitch). A total of 72 stitches

Be sure to end the sole with dark colors on the outside. Move first and last stitch of foot to sole after finishing the gusset, to continue with the “side-stripe” as in the leg.

Foot :
Continue in established pattern (chart on foot, 1/1 in sole) untill 2 inches from desired length (in my case, 6,5 / 7 inch (row 23 5th repeat)

Toe :
Bring side stitches from instep to sole, to divide stitches evenly. (2x 38/ 76 stitches in total) (Decided not to do this, since the patterns are both uneven numbers, that would create a crooked toe).

Work entire toe in pattern.

Row 1 : knit all stitches
Row 2 : Instep :knit 1, k2tog, k to 3 stitches befor end of instep, ssk, k1
Sole : k1, k2tog, k to 3 stitches befor end of sole, ssk, k1

Work these rows 4x untill you have 60 (33 + 27) stitches left, then repeat only row 2 9x untill you have XX stitches. Make 1 more decrease to het 18 stitches (2x9)

Knit row befor last in dark, last row in light (rows 8 and 9) to get a nice edging. In these rows, decrease stitches on the foot side to get the same amount as on the sole side.

Finishing : Close with 3 neelde bind off.

13.03.2017

Sock was becoming waaaaay too small (tight). Just frogged it, restarted on 3 mm needles. Probably have to do heel/gusset/sole in plain stockinette. No idea how.

15.03.2017

I get more stretch and a better gauge at 3mm needles. Decrease only twice (to 88 stitches) untill after heel turn, then make more decreases for gusset.

I need to feed the second color anyway, so the heel gusset and sole will be striped.

Almost reached the point where I frogged today. I an knitting very loosely, to make sure the sock will fit me - and without too much effort. The coming days I will have little knitting time, so hopefully I get through the heel befor Round 2 of the Sock Madness starts

16.03.2017

Knit past the heel today, halfway the gusset ; time to fit. And :it fits !!!!! It is much too large for the dummy leg now, but that is how it should be.

17.03.2017

Finished the first sock. Stitchcount is a little off, but it looks okay. Now try and see if I can copy it with my own notes……
