My daughter bought this pattern on Etsy to make them for her boyfriend, but it is waaay beyond her present skills. I tried to figure out the pattern myself, but it was either translated very badly, or designed by someone with little knowledge of pattern-writing.
A pattern in this pricerange should not have this many flaws and ask for so much trial and error and minor alterations.
The skill level says intermediate, but that is only for very experienced crocheters. For beginners it is virtually impossible, for intermediates it’s pretty hard. Requires quit a bit of experience, insight and resourcefulness. Still, it’s definitely not the worst pattern I ever saw. It’s definitely doable.
There are some brilliant findings though, like making nice edges with backpost-hdc’s. And ofcourse loads of credit for the fantastic design. That still makes up for the puzzle it turned out to be.
Please note that the slippers take hours (!) of assembly. About 3 - 4 hours each……
Finished the second slipper. A few minor flaws that I will not correct, since this was just the test-model.
For my next attempt, I will make a few alterations though :
- Make sole in thicker, firmer double crochet (and in rows, upper foot in rows as well.) Beter size-control, better fit, easier. Less nice sideseams, but they will be covered by wheels / tracksanyway
- Stuff hull with foam instead of fiberfill for better shape
- Make wheels from wide bands that I will roll up, so they fill the track. That will look soooo much better and be easier to assemble. Just a little more crocheting, but the design is worth it.
But first I’ll have to get the yarn……
