Modified pattern to make a child size slouchy bonnet as follows:

Using 8mm hook and bulky yarn:

Rnd 1: 8 hdc in magic circle
Rnd 2: 16 hdc
Rnd 3: 24 hdc
Rnd 4: 32 hdc
Rnd 5: 40 hdc
Rnd 6: 48 hdc
(Rounds 1- 6, I crocheted just as a regular hdc hat increasing 8 stitches per round)
Rounds 7-14 as written, but with stitch count of 48
Rnd 15: hdc 40, ch 1, turn
Change to 7mm hook
Rnd 16: hdc bphdc, fphdc rpt to last stitch, hdc
Rnd 17 to 19: rpt rnd 16

Add braids and pom poms

Braids: cut 18 strands of yarn 32” long. (9 per side) fold one group in half pull through corner of hat and knot, divide into 3 sections, braid and knot ends, repeat on other side
