I did not have fingering weight yarn on hand and couldn’t wait to make this hat, so I used some hand dyed sock yarn I bought on ebay.

I made this for my 3 year old granddaughter. Due to the heavier weight yarn and bigger hook I only crocheted 16 total rounds. Rounds 1-7, round 13 (7 times), and the last two rounds. Now on to the flower.

Made the flower as written, but with the same yarn and hook I used for the hat. Without any adjustments this made the flower larger in proportion to the hat than in the pattern photo. I like the larger flower, but it did not stand out. I think this was due to using variegated yarn, so I single crocheted around flower with a solid color yarn and an F hook.

Finished in one day except crocheting around flower, which I just got around to doing today. 7/22/14
