1/2/21 Beginning the planning stages for a chevron fade blanket. I haven’t finalized the colors yet, but I’m going for rusty browns and oranges. It will be a mix of acrylic and hand dyed yarns- I know, sacrilege, right!?

I have been itching to make a chevron blanket. It’s been quite awhile since I’ve made one. Then I had an idea to use up some of my worsted weight hand dyed yarn to make it. I don’t have enough hand dyed yarn in the color range I’m going for, so i though I’d use up some my stash acrylic yarn that I have an abundance of in the color range I want.

I’m hoping 2021 will be my year of destashing!!

I will be using 3 hooks sizes to adjust for different thicknesses of yarn: 6.0mm for aran weight, 6.5mm for worsted weight, and 7.0mm for doubled fingering weight.

Color plan:

of rows:/color:

3 A
2 B
2 A
4 B
2 C
2 B
4 C
2 D
2 C
4 D
…and so on until last 7 rows:
2 AA
2 Z
3 AA

27 Colors A to AA.
I figure I will need about 100 grams per color or less.

Think I have my final selections. 27 colors and 210 rows planned. Should measure approximately 46” to 48” x 72” to 78”.

1/3/21 Time to start planning and swatching!

My plan is to make straight edges on both ends of the blanket.

Pattern:

NOTE!! I am making this blanket again and have edited some of the instructions as of 12/2022. (If you began this blanket before I edited and have issues when finishing the final triangles at the end of the blanket, message me and I will try to help.)

I will begin with 8 triangles (NOTE: it will be helpful to mark each triangle with a stitch marker on the side of the triangle with the even numbered rows so you will know what side is up when joining triangles in row 8),

Rows 1-8 all stitches in BACK LOOP ONLY

Row 1: 3 sc in a magic circle (3)

Row 2: ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first sc, 3sc in next sc, 2 sc in last sc (7)

Row 3: ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first sc, sc in next 2 sc, 3 sc in center sc, sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in last sc (11)

rows 4-7: Continue as above (2 sc in first and last stitches of row, 3 sc in center stitch and one sc in all other sc) following color changes as per plan for 7 rows. Stitch count will increase by 4 stitches per row. row 7 will have 27 stitches.

Complete 8 triangles, then turn the 8 triangles over as if to begin next row and,

Row 8: Starting with one of the triangles, continue in pattern. After last two sc of 1st triangle, do not cut yarn, continue on to next triangle in pattern until all triangles are connected. This row and all subsequent rows will have a total of 248 sc stitches.

Rows 9-203: first 2 and last 2 sc of each row in BOTH LOOPS, all other stitches in BACK LOOP ONLY

Row 9: ch 1, turn, sc in first 2 sc, skip one sc, sc in next 12 sc, 3sc in next sc (center of peak), sc in each of next 14 sc, skip 2 sc, sc in each of next 14 sc (repeat to last peak), sc 3 in center of peak, sc in next 12 stitches, skip one stitch, sc in last 2 sc.

Row 10 to row 203: repeat row 9 following color changes as per plan, remembering that first 2 sc and last 2 sc are in BOTH LOOPS and all other stitches are in BACK LOOP ONLY

After row 203, turn blanket as if to start next row.

Rows 204-210 are the rows where you will decrease to fill in the voids to make the last edge of the blanket straight. This will be done in separate sections, but attached and worked directly onto blanket. You will have 1 half triangle section at the beginning, then 7 full triangle sections, and then 1 half triangle section at the end. Follow color pattern 2 rows AA, 2 rows Z, 3 rows, AA.

1st half triangle: (Attach yarn to first stitch of row)
Row 204: ch 1, sc 2, sk 1, sc 10 blo, sc 2 tog blo

Row 205: ch 1, turn, sc 2 tog blo, sc 8 blo, sk 1, sc 2

Row 206: ch 1, turn, sc 2, sk 1, sc 6 blo, sc 2 tog blo

Row 207: ch 1, turn, sc 2 tog blo, sc 4 blo, sk 1, sc 2

Row 208: ch 1, turn, sc 2, sk 1, sc 2 blo, sc 2 tog blo

Row 209: ch 1, turn, sc 2 tog blo, sk 1, sc 2 tog

Row 204: attach yarn at first stitch to the left of the center peak stitch, sc 2 tog blo, sc 12 blo, sk 2, sc 12 blo, sc 2 tog blo

Row 205: ch 1, turn, sc 2 tog blo, sc 10 blo, sk 2, sc 10 blo, sc 2 tog blo

Row 206: ch 1, turn, sc 2 tog blo, sc 8 blo, sk 2, sc 8 blo, sc 2 tog blo

Row 210: ch 1 turn, sc 2 tog blo, sk 2, sc 2 tog blo, fasten off

2nd Half triangle : ( attach yarn to first stitch to the left of the center peak stitch of the last peak)
