I really love this pattern!! It is very well written. I even like this hat on me, so I think I will keep it for myself. (I am generally not a “hat person”. I can only wear loose fitting hats as I have a narrow face and very thin hair, so I tend to look bald in tighter hats.)
The yarn I used is a weight category 2. The yarn called for in the pattern is weight category 1. I did not adjust the pattern, however, until I got to the band as I wanted a slouchy fit.
I crocheted 5 rounds in the band. Round 1: as written Round 2: decreased to 85 stitches around. ( sc in 4 stitches, then sc 2 tog, repeat) Round 3,4,5: 85 sc around. ( At first I tried the stitch pattern for round 5 as written, but it wasn’t my personal taste, so I pulled it out. What an ordeal! Patons Lace is close to impossible to pull stitches out!)
I didn’t add the flowers included in the pattern. I like the hat as is, but might make the flowers and put them on a clip so they can be removed.
This hat fits great. The band is just tight enough to stay on and the hat is slightly slouchy. It doesn’t slip at all and is very lightweight.
I recommend the Patons Lace yarn, but check for mistakes often, as it’s very difficult to pull stitches out! This is why I rated it 4 stars instead of 5.
By the way, talk about a bargain hat, The price on the skein I bought at Hobby Lobby was $6.49. I’m pretty sure I used a 40% off coupon and one skein could easily make 2 hats.
