I went a little crazy when the Velvet Yarn came out. I have enough skeins in a few colors to make some blankets, so I’m experimenting with stitches. The velvet yarn can be tricky. I’ve found some stitches just don’t work as they the yarn catches and later loops start popping out of the piece.
I decided on the same stitch I used for my Velvet Cowl. hdc, crocheted between the stitches rather than into the stitches.
Started with 140 Foundation hdc for the length and estimating about 110 rows and 5 skeins. The first 22 rows measured about 9” and I got 21.5 rows out of the first skein. Finished measurements I’m estimating about 60” to 65” x 42” to 48”. I was able to get through the first skein and start on the second one in one evening.
I’m using a 6.5m hook and the fabric is pretty heavy and dense. I thought about trying a 7mm, but my favorite hooks only go up to a 6.5mm and I didn’t want to switch to the plastic ones.
1/12/19 Finished! 95 rows was the total rows, then I did 3 rounds of border.
Border:
Round one- dc around, dc ch1 dc in corners. rounds 2 and 3_ alternate front and back post dc, dc ch 1 dc in corners. Note: On round three make sure you crochet front post dc’s in the front post dc’s of round 2 and back post dc’s in the back post dc’s of round 2.
