Notes

3/11/16-After the 10th round of a center circle it measured 9” using an H hook & 3-light weight yarn. A bit too big for what I want. I’m starting over and I’ve also decided to use white instead of gray. It will change the effect but I think it will be nicer for a baby blanket.
3/31/16-Making slow progress. I’ve got some yellow complete but no picture of it. I’m dreading piecing this together, and sewing in the ends. I’m still undecided as to whether or not to put the striped edge on the blanket. I’m considering keeping the sides wavy but putting a SC border around the entire blanket.
4/8/16-I worked on this all day. I had 3 yellow pieces complete before starting. I decided to make the rest of the pieces at the same time. I got through the second green band (I took a progress picture to get an idea of what it’s going to look like.) I haven’t made the edge pieces in green and purple, yet. I’m also debating remaking the center circles since I realized I made a mistake in them. It’s one of those things I think only an experienced crocheter will notice, but I know it & it’s a gift. I decided to wait to see if I have enough yarn at the end. If I do, I’m probably remaking them.
4/9/16-I only have to make the little end pieces now. I decided I am definitely going to remake the center circles, too, and with the 4 I already have, I will make them into small pillows. I hope to get that all finished tomorrow so I can start putting it all together this week and maybe even having it complete by the end of the week.
4/10/16-I completed the 8 pieces only to realize I used the wrong pattern shape! I have to remake them, too.
4/17/16-I completed remaking the 4 center circles. I’m glad I redid them. Now to remake the 8 edge pieces. I’m not going to make the side panels.
4/19/16-All pieces for the center are completed. Sewing in the ends is going to take a little while but I’ve gotta make them secure since this is for a baby!
4/22/16-I only have the yellow & large orange pieces left to sew in the tails. Hopefully I can start assembling this today. If not, it will sit until Monday. The baby will be 3 months old on Monday. So much for getting it done in a timely manner! I did lose time from having a cold & also having a life outside of crocheting. Hahaha!
The ends are in!
4/27/16-I’m putting this together. This is the real challenge, in my opinion. Even counting stitches and trying to place everything evenly, the center circles are not flat. I’m hoping when I block it, it will flatten out. I also didn’t put the yellow pieces behind the orange, but started putting the semicircles behind starting with the green row. Because there is a bit more width between the circles, I didn’t think I should overlap that row, but now I’m not so sure.
5/6/16-I have the body pieced together (the purple will get pieced the rest of the way when I attach the side panels.) I decided it needs the side panels, but I’m only going to make them about 1.5-2” wide to start.
5/7/16-I attempted to make the side lines anyway, but the strip came out way too long! Plan b is to do what I originally wanted to do. Make a border using lighter pink, yellow, and blue on the sides keeping them scalloped. Here’s hoping I like it!
5/8/16-the body is finished (I attached the purple, too.) I just need to add the border.
5/11/16-yesterday I attempted to make the border scalloped a few times (picture of one attempt) but not only was my stitch count slightly off, I didn’t like the way the solid band of color looked, so I decided to try again with the side lines. I started them last night & finished them today. One is pinned to the blanket ready to be slip stitched on, but I need to sew in the ends of the other side still. I had to make adjustments to the pattern by removing rows 2, 3, 30, & 31 in the repeats. I’m also glad I used the paler colors on the edges. I also need to use a 4th skein of white because I made so many parts that I didn’t frog but couldn’t use. If I were to make this again this size, I would definitely only need 3 skeins!
5/12/16-Completed the border. I had to redo part of it because there were too many stitches making it bunched between a green and purple edge piece. If I were to make another blanket, I would not slip stitch it together, but just simply sew it. It does not lay completely flat, and I don’t believe blocking will help because the slsts are so tight. I used extra effort to crochet the border loose.
The edges were 3” at the narrowest parts & I used a 14dc starting chain. The border was extended on the top and bottom by putting 2 rows of DC on each trying to square off the blanket because it was very noticeably wider than longer.

I believe had I used a larger hook the blanket would have had a better drape. I think my stitching is very tight that I would have still had a problem with Sl st-ing the pieces together. Perhaps I could have used one hook size larger to join the pieces.
