Planned to make a 2/4, but my gauge was 4” for 11 st (which was good, but) 5” after 10 rows using a K hook. My stitches were way too tall. I thought I could adjust for the height by removing rows, but, the fabric also looked too airy for what I prefer.

I decided to go up a pattern size using a J to make the girth fit better with the smaller hook. My stitches are still a bit tall, but again, I think omitting rows will work if needed. Using the size 6/8, after 7 rows in, it fits with a slight (I think it was a 2 stitch) overlap around my hips-the largest part of my body. I’ll double check my gauge as I go along to see if my tension is any different from when I made the swatch and if there’s a change, I’ll update.

Checked my gauge now that I’m 19 rows into the pattern. It’s 11 rows and 12 stitches is 4”
I’m not sure I’ll have enough yarn to complete the sweater. I was thinking I only needed 1600yds, but (especially since I changed sizes) I need about 2000yds. If I have to, I’ll make it a short sleeve extra long sweater.
In the meantime, I trying to decide if I want to pull rows so the pockets fit lower on my hips. I’m almost certain I’m going to pull 2 or 3 rows.

I made 45 rows before shaping for the armholes. I also separated the fronts at 37 stitches to broaden the back by about 2”. I decided not to frog it. Considered putting horizontal inside pockets, but I think I will leave it without pockets this time. I may have enough yarn after all being I was able to shorten the length by so much. We’ll see…

I only added 18 rows afterwards which may be a little tight after all. I’m so glad I broadened the back. I wouldn’t be able to put it on if I hadn’t. As it is, it is snug, but not uncomfortable, across my shoulder blades. I love the length and once I add the edging (provided I have enough yarn to do it!), it will be right where I want it. I am in need of losing a few pounds and if I succeed, this sweater should fit me perfectly.

I finished the hood and put the front edge on before making the sleeves. If needed, I’ll do the bottom edge in black. I also weaved in all the loose ends and started one of the sleeves.
I only made 30 rows for the hood & the armholes have 52 stitches at the start.

Finally! I was able to track down another skein of Jade this afternoon which I will use for the sleeves since they don’t join directly with the original dye lot I used. I’m also starting the sleeves over; working back and forth rather than one continuous round. I like the look of it better. You can see in the one picture the left side (right sleeve) has been started over, worked back and forth, whereas the right side (left sleeve) still is worked in a continuous round.

I’m updating this for the games as a WIP. I finished the right sleeve yesterday. I finished the left today. I’m sewing in the ends now and then I will decided if I will add pockets and a belt.
