La Belle Hélène is my figurine for presenting my knitting. She is an old Lady and worked for a taylor near London for many years. In 2004 she has retired and now works parttime for me presenting my knitwork.
La Belle Hélène does her work very well and never complain whether the clothing suits her or not.
What I don’t like is the view on her cleft. It shows her interiours which are not very attractive. In the past I hid it under some cloth or shawls what I didn’t find very aesthetic.
Finally I found some neutral looking yarn and started a cover.
Basically I began with a raglan shape from the bottom, decreasing until neckwidth. Then I worked without shaping to the cleft edge and decreased eight times per round in every second round. That’s it. I started with 320 stitches and worked some rows in moss stitch with the smaller needles.
Now La Belle Hélène shows a nice gorge when presenting V-neck knitting or turtleneck.
Perhaps I will make another one in black. To avoid the visible lines I would start earlier with knitting in the round and decreasing stitches evenly distributed.
