Notes

Die lange Geschichte findet ihr in meinem Stricktagebuch am 7. Januar 2011
In my knitting diary you may read the long version of the developing process of this tunic. It may not look attractive but contents an intensive use of mathematical matters.
The source of knitting this tunic came from Heidrun who has worked a project in the same technique.
It’s knitted top down with a short-row yoke. But the specific thing is the sideway knitted body and sleeves. That seems not spectacular but look what you get if you knit plain parts sideways
round border. But what I wanted were evenly lined borders
To get this result I made preliminiary considerations which I drawed in a sketch.
I then used Pythagorean calculations and worked out the parts of the arc of a circle.
I substituted the measurements with “stitches” and “ripples” and it was perfect.
Finally I plotted out a quadrant on graph paper with the original number of stitches and marked the positions where to increase or deacrease stitches. I worked the scalloped part connected with the yoke. This looked like this

Finally I was not pleased with the colors for I used up leftovers. I cross-dyed with blue which topped all other colors.

The result doesn’t satisfy me but I was very pleased to be able to make such more or less complicated calculations.
Next time I would use thinner yarn for the body and sleeves. And I would make the sleeves with fewer ease.
