Deutscher Bericht in meinem Stricktagebuch vom 4. November 2010 (Link im Profil)
Our vacation in Iceland in 2009 was the best we ever had.
Not only that we put aside money for many years for this holidays we also enjoyed every minute and talk about it nearly every day.
All in all I bought three kilograms of wool at every opportunity and had a lot of time to talk with Icelandic women about knitting.
I choose this yarn at Akureyri’s yarn store “Fold-Anna” especially for a knitted gift for my mother in law. Those are her favourite colours. They are alike to some colours of Icelandic moss and lichen. Therefore the vest got the name “Iceland Moss” .
The vest is my own design. My decision was to keep the pattern simple because I didn’t want to disturb the floating lines. It’s worked in one piece and has no seams.
The lines are knitted like this:
Row 1: knit colour 1, push stitches back
Row 2: knit colour 2, turn
repeat the two rows and you will get a pattern which looks alike on both sides if you only chose two colours. Hanne Falkenberg often takes this pattern for her models.
I began with a provisional cast-on at the shoulder line and worked to the underarm.
Then I additionally cast on the stitches for the armpit opening and the frontside of the arm opening.
Every 8th row I increased 6 stitches for the front parts. The selvedges of the frontparts were connected with the open shoulder stitches.
Then I constructed the v-neck with short rows.
When the vest was big enough I put all stitches on my circular needle which has 300cm length.
The waistband goes all around and was worked in moss stitch pattern.
I add one pocket on the right side and followed the pattern and colours of the vest.
The buttons were spotted in my Aunts sewing basket and at my opinion the match perfectly to the colours of the vest.
