This sweater is one of my mostly worn ones. It had been umpty times in the washing machine and looks still great. No pilling at all!
It’s in my suitcase whenever I make longer journeys because it’s light and warm.
The sweater is worked in two shawls for the body and two smaller ones for the sleeves. You knit 10 rows in stockinette with main yarn and 4 rows in reverse stockinette with a contrasting yarn. No shaping.
Make the parts a third longer as the desired lenght.
This is quickly made but now the main work starts:
the stripes are sewn together so that a sort of grid occurs. I needed about 10 hours for that. Then simply sew the sweater parts together.
It has a loose fit and a boat-neck opening. The pattern is three-dimensional at the beginning but after washing it flattens.
