Olivia was made on my Brother knitting-machine, single bed and I used the yarn doubled. The material for the body is a blend of bourette silk, wool and acrylic. The cuffs are handknitted and made out of sockyarn matching to the speckles of the main yarn.
In the absence of a sketch I made a drawing with the help of the gauge/tension and recalculated the stitches and rows for the machine-part.
I started with the front using waste yarn and knitted to the underarm where I decreased the calculated stitches. Continued to the front neck and finished with some rows of waste yarn.
Same with the back except that I formed a higher neck with short rows.
I began the sleeves at the ankles and made the calculated increases. For I didn’t want the neck as deep as in the original pattern I made 6 raglan decreases on each side of every sleeve.
I put the parts together with matress stitches.
The neck stitches were put on a circular needle and in the next round I made the decreases as given in the pattern.
Then the hip was finished. For I don’t have the matching figure I don’t make decreases. This would have made me look like a balloon, so I left the number of stitches for the cuff.
The tunic then was tried on to shorten the sleeves to a fitting length and finished with the cuffs.
The machine-knitted-parts were finished within two hours, hemming one and a half and for the cuffs I needed three evenings.
I worked another Olive on the machine and knitted the body on two beds in rounds. But I would prefer to make four parts on the single-bed if I made this tunic again.
