I have the book since 1999 and planned to knit the sweater with my knitting machine. I even punched the cards for three patterns in 2001 but couldn’t decide which yarn to take.
Intending to be perfect I realized the 200 needles not to be sufficient for knitting the sweater sideways. So I skipped the project.
When I was gifted the wonderful linen I swatched and started. Petrol was chosen as the main color because I bought a bunch. As contrasting colors I took several kinds of green and turquoise from which I had only one skein. The yarn was used double.
As you might notice I worked the waistband in the same pattern as the cuffs.
The cut-and-sew-neckline was sewn with my sewing machine but I knitted the collar by hand because this was easier as doing this by machine.
Before I did the sewing I stitched up all threads and sewed the waistband inside. Then I put the sweater into the washing machine to see in which way the knitting changed. The petrol colored yarn left its color but fortunately the lighter colors didn’t change. The measurements slightly changed by growing denser and grew while wearing it.
Before working the neckline I dried the open piece on a clothes hanger what was not a clever idea, it was heavily crumbled afterwards and had to be ironed and steamed. No problem with linen.
I used a technique we call “rubbish chute collar” (Müllschlucker-Kragen) what means, all uncleanlyness from the cutting and sewing is hidden under the collar.
Then I sewed the sleeves and the side seams.

You may see that the petrol colored yarn bleaches while machine washing.
And note: I had competent help while doing the cut&sew work
Ah, yes: my yarn winder was also a good help: The skein stays stable until the last 2 or 3 windings.
