Notes

Another experiment with my knitting machine. I had to buy another sinker plate because the Brother KH830 carriage has no equipment for the plating tool.

Some notes about plating

  • Main yarn and plating yarn together must be under the maximum thickness the machine can work with. i.e.: two sockyarns might be to thick for a standard knitting machine
  • Best is that you only use one thread for plating. You may try to use more plating threads but don’t be annoyed if the results are not satisfactory. Quite a few threads in main yarn are OK, but be careful there isn’t any thread forming loops
  • use more weight as usual when plating only on the main bed

After washing the corkscrews were not really defined any more. But the plating gives this simple stole an eye-catching effect.
Maybe thinner yarn brings the curling effect back.

The pictures with blue and red plating show brioche-machine-knitting with plating yarn in the front slot. The blue example shows how the plating thread in lighter blue covers the main yarn in darker blue.
The scarf was an experiment in several ways. In general you may say the slot next to you covers the knit stitches in either way whether you use single bed or double bed.
To avoid slipping of plating yarn into slot of main yarn I “helped” the threads staying in place with a little construction.

The stitches look a little like two-color-brioche-stitch but only if you look at one side.
But: two-color-brioche-stitch shows color 1 at the knit stitches, color 2 shows in the backgound. On the other side, the color 2 shows at the knit stitches, color 1 shows in the background.

Plating technique on brioche stitch shows always the same color on the knit stitches it’s not invers.
