When I first saw this pattern some time in Oct or Nov I knew I HAD to finally teach myself how to purl! So I made it one of my New Year’s resolutions because I absolutely HAD to make this cloth. You see, I was born and raised in New England and have been a NE Patriots fan since Steve Grogan was a rookie (to you younguns, I’m sure you can find his name on wikipedia), so how could I NOT knit a football?

Anyhow, I began last week with a scarf that I started just so I could get the hang of the stitches, then I moved on to this project. It’s a great one for beginners because it’s so basic, just knit and purl, nothing too fancy. The only thing I did differently from the pattern is that I used a larger needle (10 rather than 7) to make the stitching a bit easier on myself.

My goal is to have it done before the Superbowl (2/6/11).

And that’s one NY resolution put to bed…YAY ME!
