Notes

Jim loves his knee highs, but they just take too long in fingering weight. I need to work out a generic pattern for myself in sport weight that will stay up.

Here’s my short hand notes. He’s a slender man, so they should fit the average woman’s leg. Note that I put a mini gusset around the heel, because jim and I both have deep heels.

Toe-up: Cast on 20 sts on 3mm needles

Increase to 48sts.

3 sets of increases for heel gusset, 54 sts.
Short rows down to 8 sts

After heel, decrease to 49 sts, then work K5 P2 around, until leg reaches toe when sock is folded in half.

Work calf increases every 4th row:

  1. Increase 2 purl sts.
  2. Increase 1 knit st.
  3. Increase 2 knit sts.
  4. Increase 2 knit sts. Stitch count is 56.

Work till 2.5” below knee. Switch to K1 P1 for 2.5”. Use sewn tubular bind off to finish.

Next time I can go longer, by an inch at least. I had plenty of yarn left over.
