September 21, 2016

I’m itching to start this sweater. I’m just doodling around with things while I finish off Argo. I’m going with the blue version of the swatch. I look much better in a blue red, than orange red.

Cast off Argo, cast on this!

I measured my swatch and got gauge in the stockinette. The color work will require going up a needle size.

I was hoping that the B&L sport would work up to a larger gauge than J&S or Rauma Finullgarn. Now I’m going to have to up size it with stitches….

I can’t visualize what I need to do, so I just dove in with the XL size. My tentative plan is to add extra stitches under the arm, and to have some random increases in the fronts and arms just before I get to the color work. Once the yoke fits, the rest will fall into place.

I’m also considering adding an extra heavy motif to each band of color. I think it may be more proportional when the sweater is going to be so much wider.

I added quite a few increases before the split for the arms.

Need to add at least 9 inches to bust
Need to add at least 4 inches to each arm.

Aim for 3 inches in underarm cast on. Cast on 26 +15 = 41 sts

That means 3 inches of extra stitches for yoke:
On last pink round increase 5 sts either side of Center for front.
On last red round increase 7 sts either side of Center
For both front and back.

And 1 inch or more of extra stitches for each arm:
On pink round, increase 3 evenly
On red round increase 6 evenly

On top of that I goofed the center pattern of the fourth motif. So I just added an extra stitch between them. That added 3 more stitches to both front and back. At least when I screw up, I do it consistently.

Next up are some hip increases. I need 2 extra inches at the hip, so 14 stitches. I think I’ll start where I am now, adding 2 stitches every 4th row. Only adding them to the front, cause that’s where I carry the weight.
