A word about the yarn
So hard to do the colours justice in the photos, but I liked this yarn very much for the slightly soft, muted tones (the 5th and 6th photos down show the truest colours). Great to work with and even though the yarn band suggests a size 2.5-3mm hook, I produced a nice square with a 4.5 hook. I ended up using the 3.5mm for this project though. Steam pressed at end.

Edging
The edge was made by doing two rounds of granny and ending with a diagonal stitch thus (US terms):
Join in yarn into any space and ch3, dc in next space, +ch3, 3dc along shaft of dc just made, dc in next space+, repeat from + to + around ending with ch3, 2dc along shaft of dc just made, join to top of ch3.
