2016.12.18 Update: Made same hat for hubby’s friend in DK weight yarn. Hubby now prefers the gifted hat and asked for same exact hat.
Me: “Why? You haven’t lost your hat yet or it hasn’t been “stolen” yet and it doesn’t looked old and tired.“
Hubby: “Well…when I wear my hat it tends to ride up”
Me: “Why didn’t you say so when I had you fit it in the first place???”
Hubby: “It was fine and I could live with it…but now since I tried the new hat…I like the new one better. It fits better”
Me: As I grind my teeth and with clenched fists and thinking to myself of another project added to the TO DO LIST. “OK, happy to but I’ll not knit you a new hat but rather fix the current one.”
hubby: “Love you Dear”
2016.12.18:
Frogged crown section.
Added life line in case the fit is not right.
Continued in pattern for 2 rounds.
For crown decreases: Did acceleration of crown decreases to every round once had 40 stitches on needles. (Originally waited until had 56 stitches on needles before acceleration of crown decreases to every round.) This should add 4 rounds to hat which is 1/2”. Hopefully length will be enough.
Re did crown section by adding a few rounds. Waited until 40 stitches left on needles to do acceleration of crown decreases to every round.
Post Block: forthcoming

2013.10:
Recreated hat by looking at pics and Ravelry Users’ notes.
Hubby loves it!
Brim on US 6 - Ribbing: P1, K1tbl for 1.6” - 2” (14 rnds incl CO)
Body & Crown on US 7
Crown begins @ 5” (Ribbing section side is 6” long & opposite side is 5.5” in length)
Did not do K3tog decreases, looked too bulky. Did double decrease variation from knitty.com:
Work SSK, sl new stitch back to left hand needle then pass the stitch located left of “SSK” st over the “SSK” st. (The manipulation is from left to right). Then transfer the new worked stitch back to right needle.
CO 96 sts for Med.
Accelerated crown decreases to every rnd once stitch count hit 56 sts. This makes the hat not too tall and more snug for Kevin which he prefers. (This former swimmer likes his hats snug as a swim cap!)
Once hit 8 sts.,cut yarn and run yarn end through live stitches 2x to prevent hole from developing then weave end.
