Notes

Making a lavender-filled octopus for a stress toy for a special request. I added a fabric sachet of lavender to the centre of head….or is it the body??

US crochet terms.

Octopus Head/Body
6sc in a magic ring.
Rnd 1: inc around (12)
Rnd 2: (1sc, inc) around. (18)
Rnd 3: (2sc, inc) around. (24)
Rnd 4: (3sc, inc) around. (30)
Rnd 5: (4sc, inc) around. (36)
Rnd 6: (5sc, inc) around. (42)
Rnds 7 - 23: sc around. (42)
Rnd 24: (5sc, dec) around. (36)
Rnds 25 & 26: sc around. (36)
Rnd 27: (4sc, dec) around. (30)
Rnd 28: sc around. (30)
Rnd 29: (3sc, dec) around. (24)
Rnd 30: working in the back loops only (2sc, dec) around. (18)
Begin stuffing - I added some stuffing, then a fabric sachet of lavender (optional), then some more stuffing. Add more stuffing as you go if required.
Rnd 31: working in both loops (1sc, dec) around. (12)
From this point, dec until the hole is closed.
I added glass bead for the eyes between about Rnds 24-26…alternately you could use safety eyes or stitch them on with black yarn or embroidery thread.

Tentacles
Chain 32, 1sc in 2nd ch from hook, 3sc in ea of next 3 ch, 2sc in next 2 ch, 1sc in ea of next 5ch, 1hdc in ea of next 5 ch, 1dc in ea st to end DO NOT BREAK YARN
Go straight into your next tentacle with a ch32 - repeat the process until you have 8 tentacles, leaving a long tail to stitch the legs to the base of the body.
Lay your tentacles out flat and make sure that they are not twisted, join your last chain to the first chain from the first tentacle to form a circle - this will make it much easier to sew to the base of the head/body….somewhere around Rnd 30.
