Recycling my ‘Sushi Sushi’ packaging from my lunch today to ‘yarnbomb’ a ‘Sushi Sushi’ store next time I walk by!

US crochet terms used.

Basic sushi roll;
Seaweed
Using 3.5mm hook and ‘Carnival Soft’ black yarn, make 23 chain, then sc 22. (22)
Rows 2-26: 22sc, ch1, turn.
Row 27: 22sc, finish off leaving a long tail to sew first and last rows together to form a tube.
Rice
(Make 2)
Using 3.5mm hook and Carnival Acrylic 8ply yarn in cream.
Work 6sc in a magic ring (or ch2, work 6sc in first ch). (6)
Rnd 1: increase around. (12)
Rnd 2: (1sc, inc) around. (18)
Rnd 3: (2sc, inc) around. (24)
Finish off leaving a long tail for sewing and stitch one slightly inside each end of the tube - obviously add stuffing before sewing the second circle in place.

Tuna
(Make 2)
Using 2.5mm hook and tan yarn, ch6.
Work sc 3 rows of 5sc, finish off leaving a tail to sew one piece of tuna slightly off-centre to each end.
Avocado
(Make 2)
Using 2.5mm hook and pale yellow yarn,
Ch3, then work 2sc, ch1, turn.
Row 2: 1sc, inc, ch1 - change to green, turn.
Row 3: 1sc, inc, 1sc, ch1, turn.
Row 4: 4sc, finish off - sew next to tuna on either end.

Prawn
The prawn rolls tend to have a flat end and a more decorative end with the prawn tail and some lettuce poking out.
Flat end
Using 2.5mm hook and a darker cream yarn than the one that you used for the rice,
Work 1sc, 1hdc, 2sc, 2hdc, 1sc in a magic ring, sl st to join, change to a cooked prawn pink and work (2sc, inc) x 2, then 2sc, sl st to join, finish off and sew slightly off-centre to one end.
Tail end
Ch8, sl st to join, ch1.
Rnd 1: work 10sc into the ring, sl st to join, ch1. (10)
Rnd 2: dec around. (5)
Rnd 3: dec, 3sc. (4)
Flatten the piece that you’ve made to make it possible to work the tail.
Working through both thicknesses of your work, put your hook through the next st in the round - it should exit out the back of the last stitch that was made,
sl st, ch 2, 1dc, 1tr, 1dc, 2ch, sl st into the stitch that you have been working in, then sl st into the next st and repeat ch 2, 1dc, 1tr, 1dc, 2ch, sl st into the stitch you have been working in, finish off.
Sew onto the opposite end of your sushi - slightly off-centre and keep the base in an oval shape as you sew.
Lettuce
For the end with the ‘flat prawn’ piece, work 4fdsc in a lettuce green (3.5mm hook) and stitch it in place up against one side of the prawn piece - preferably towards the middle of the sushi.
For the ‘prawn tail’ end, I worked 9ch, (dc, 2tr, dc) in 3rd ch from hook, (dc, 2sc, sl st) in next ch, (sl st, hdc, 2dc) in next ch - repeat from first ( ) work to the end of the starting chain, then turn your work and work back up the other side of your starting chain until you run out of chains to work in, finish off.
Fold your piece of lettuce however you like and stitch in place up against one side of the prawn tail - preferably towards the middle of the sushi.

Wasabi
I adapted this tutorial for cupcake frosting to make the wasabi;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNCy6vs940g
Using 3.5mm hook and a wasabi green yarn (I used a green from the KMart Homemaker brand - colour 1004),
Ch 12 then follow the pattern for 17 rows.
Finish off by sewing start and finish rows together. For the underside of the wasabi - gather the row ends and pull up. To give the ‘piped’ look to the top, I moved down a sc from the top and gathered there - this leaves a little bit sticking up when you pull it up.

Soy Sauce Fish
Using 2.5mm hook and a light purple (I think the purple lid is gluten-free soy sauce….standard sauce has a red lid), work 4sc in a magic ring (or ch2, 4sc in first ch).
Rnd 2: working in back loops only 4sc, change to black. (4)
Rnd 3: (inc, 1sc) x 2. (6)
Rnd 4: (inc, 2sc) x 2. (8)
Rnd 5: (inc, 3sc) x2. (10)
Rnd 6: (inc, 4sc) x2. (12)
Rnd 7: sc around. (12)
Rnd 8: (dec, 4sc) x 2. (10)
Rnd 9: (dec, 3sc) x2. (8)
Rnd 10: (dec, 2sc) x 2, finish off.
Tail - flatten your fish and work through both layers of the end of your fish. Using cream, join your yarn and chain 3. Work 5dc across the stitches of the tail area, ch3, sl st to finish off.
