I’m doing a vintage garden party-inspired first birthday party for my daughter. It’s basically an excuse to eat cupcakes and drink lemonade in fancy dresses on the eve of summer.

Like most of Taiga Hilliard’s designs, this is a logical, straightforward pattern. I did find some confusing wording in the lace motif, however. I am not a chart person, so I followed the written pattern and the way the parenthesis line up is a little misleading in terms of how the repeats should work. I figured it out, though, and am really happy with it so far.

I chose a heavier yarn than the pattern calls for, and cotton has a way of stretching wide, so I am making the 6 mo size but following the 12 mo length requirements. I am really excited for this project. A word on the yarn -- it may be the best cotton yarn I have ever worked with. It’s cool, has a nice sheen to it, and it does not split for me. LOVING IT.
