This is a test knit design for a Taiga Hilliard Designs cardigan. I made the 9-12 month size for my tiny lady in Eco Wool.

First, the pattern: Well written, clear instructions. This is a very fast knit! I did it in two evenings for this size. For a smaller size, I’m sure I could finish it in one.There is an option for a short or long-sleeved version. I followed the directions for the long sleeve but stopped them short because older babies who are on the move like to get into things and sleeves get in the way. I knit about 3.25” before starting the garter cuff on the sleeves.

The cable pattern is simple and makes the pattern more interesting than just a plain stockingette back. I really like it a lot.

Second, the yarn: great to work with, very affordable. However, the color did bleed a little when I soaked and blocked it after knitting. It also feels a touch on the rough side while knitting but I put it in soak wash (https://www.soakwash.com/) before blocking and it softened right up. It’s very nice now. I got the yarn a long time ago and the label has since disappeared, so I do not know exactly which red it is, but the color is a nice, deep crimson.

Overall: I am going to make this pattern again in the newborn size. There are lots of babies in my universe these days and this is the perfect sweater for a knit gift. I could see this being great on the smaller babies to keep them warm during tummy time. I like that my busy lady can move in it. I think she will get a lot of use out of it.
