This pattern is a test knit for Taiga Hilliard Designs. I made it using a little over 1 skein of Happy Fuzzy Yarns sock yarn that I got in my Yarnbox subscription a little over a year ago.
About the pattern:
It’s an interesting knit. It’s almost like three different shawl designs in one: it’s a semi-circle shawl, but it has a point on one side, garter stitch ridges on the other, and it’s asymmetrical. It is a lot of stockingnette, but this pattern did not bore me. Also, it is a really good size to have as a takealong project -- even when it got really big I could still fit it in a tote bag and knit during my morning bus commute. I do like this shawl because I think it can be worn in a few different ways, which I tried to show in the pictures.
p.s. I took photos in the late afternoon so the colors look a little different depending on the light and a couple of the pictures were in direct sunlight and got a little overly exposed. I left them all in the mix because I think it shows how the color in the yarn can be brighter or more subdued depending on the light.
About the yarn:
The colors are vibrant and make an interesting combination. It reminds me of rainbow sherbet. I think this is a nice little spring/summer piece that I can wear over a lace dress as pictured for the days that are just a touch too chilly to go without a coverup of some kind. However, I had a bugger of a time getting this to shape right when blocked. I was surprised that a sock yarn had so little give, but I don’t think I would use this again. It feels pretty nice and the drape is great, but it kind of has a mind of its own.
On the whole, I wasn’t sure if I liked this piece the whole time I was knitting it and even after cast off and while it was blocking. I think that I have decided now that, while it is not my favorite shawl, I think I will still wear it and enjoy it. I would absolutely make this pattern again but I would want to try it with a different yarn.
