Using size 4 needles, cast on 31 st.

knit first and last st together to join, with 10 st on each of 3 needles.
Alternate purl and knit rows for 45 rounds, ending on a knit round.

Switch to size 8 needles for next round.
Knit into front and back of each stitch to double number of stitches.
Knit for 6 rounds.

Switch to size 4 needles and knit 2 st together for whole round, reducing number of stitches back to 36 st.

Purl next round

For left hand, Knit first 6 st on waste yarn for thumb, reknit a knit round. (For right hand, knit last 6 st on waste yarn. This will put the slight seam on the underside of hand.)

Purl round.
Knit round.

Switch to size 8 needles for next round.
Knit into front and back of each stitch to double number of stitches.
Knit for 6 rounds.

Switch to size 4 needles and knit 2 st together for whole round, reducing number of stitches back to 36 st.

Alternate purl and knit rounds for 9 rounds, ending on a knit round. Bind off loosely.

Use size 4 needles to pick up stitches for thumb from waste yarn. Start with a knit round and add two stitches at each side.

Alternate purl and knit rounds for 15 rounds, ending on a knit round. Bind off loosely.

Weave in all loose ends.
