sleeves :
knit first, 2 at a time on straight needles, used about 2.5 skeins
body :
adding 3 sts at each end for icord border (so pattern + 6 sts)
each RS and WS : start row with k3, end with sl3wyif to make the icord
armhole at 23 cm high (rather than 19 for my size) because I’m tall and it was the end of a ball (note I knitted the bottom band before reaching armhole height)
shoulder shaping : use german short rows, then 3 needles binf off
bottom band :
used about 1 skein + 5 g
pick up 3 sts on left front icord
icord cast on 17 sts (to get the 17 requested st + 3 stiches for icord)
on RS : k first 3 sts, then as pattern
on WS : as pattern to the last 3 sts = sl3wyif
when all body stitches attached, icord bind off the 17 sts and graft last 3 sts (the one from icord) to the right front icord
collar :
add some short rows to make sure the collar wouldn’t be too tight (because of my icord borders)
- pick up one more st for back at both front-back jonction = 19 stitches on each half + central stitch
- for each front :
ridge 1 : knit collar garter stich to last 10 sts, W&T, knit to last 3 sts, sl3wyif
ridge 2 : knit to last st (without picking wrap when reached), attach last stitch to back as said by pattern / row as pattern to go back to icord side
ridge 3 : short row at last 5 sts / row as pattern to go back to icord
ridge 4 : complete row (attach to back) / row as pattern
Repeat these 4 garter ridges 3 times… 13 stitches left on each side of back central stitch
- work 7 ridges joining collar to back : 7 stitches left on each side of central stitch
- one ridge with W&T 10 sts before end / 3 complete ridges (collar attached to back) / repeat one more time / one ridge with W&T 10 sts before end / one row to attach on right side but one ridge on left side
- last row done on left side to attach central stitch and then joinery bind off on left side… ending with grafting icord together
My cardigan was a bit small when off needles (sleeves were with negative ease), but washing and blocking to measurements was perfect! Take time for these finishing touches
