Notes

My first pullover! My inspiration comes from my last travel with my parents and sister, 10 years ago, to Iceland. We spent 15 days, traveling all over the country, from west to east in a big jeep, which was jerking up and down all the time. The incredible beauty of the land of fire and ice is forever etched in my memory, as well as those magical moments with my family. Those long kilometers of roads through volcanic deserts of highlands, the adrenaline when we were crossing the valleys surrounded by volcanos that could wake up at any moment, the butterflies in our stomaches when we had to ford riviers, the rides in the middle of icebergs at the end of glaciers, the hours spent soaking in the milky blue waters of hot springs, and the roar of geysers before an eruption.
From this trip, I particularly remember 3 characteristic colors:

  • The grey of all those volcanic rocks and sands which cover the country, but also the plumes of ashes spewed by volcanos, sometimes found trapped in the ice.
  • The white of glaciers and permanent snow, the hot steam of geysers and the whitish scum of waterfalls.
  • The turquoise of milky hot springs, the bluish transparency of pure ice, and the surface of pool geyser before ejecting the water.

I tried to trap all those memories in this pullover.
About the Lopi, that was a real pleasure to knit this yarn, slightly elastic. Even if my friend calls it “the viking wool”, it doesn’t itch me at all.

  • May 28th : Oh dear swatches, it was impossible to ignore you for my first pullover. I love Ysolda, but as I knit much tighter than her, each time, I have to change for bigger needles. Luckily I did samples, even using the same yarn, I had to change for needles 5.5mm instead of 4.5mm, that’s a big difference! For swatches, i knit 51st x 30 rds, which corresponds to the top of a sleeve, this way, i’m sure of my gauge but also the size (49’’). After blocking the my swatch in 5.5mm, my gauge is 18sts x 27 rds

  • June 1st: Starting!!! I’m knitting the sleeves on 2 circulars needles at the same time

  • June 3rd: I posted my proposal #319 in Nerd Wars as a dissertation. I keep my fingers crossed!!

  • June 4th: I am so happy, my proposal has been approved!! So far, i knit 13 cm of the sleeves (4 rep), but i have to put this projet aside for knitting challenges of the month!

  • June 29th: Both sleeves done, whouhou!!!

  • July 4th: 13 cm of the body knit, i’m starting the waist decrease.

  • July 24th: Check-in post #1091

  • July 26th: After weeks working on other projects, i’m back to my pullover!

  • July 27th: Starting the waist increase (30cm of the body done)

  • July 30th: Whouhou, i joined the sleeves and the body together!!! It’s going so fast, i can’t wait to start the chart!

  • August 1st: the wrapless short rows part is done (thanks Ysolda for her video) and i already knit one round of the chart!!!

  • August 4th: The chart is done and it’s so beautiful! Only few rows left, and it’ll be finished!!

  • August 5th: Cast off with 6.5mm, yarn held double, using Jeny’s Super Stretchy Bind Off method.

  • August 6th: underarms closed, all ends weaved… THE PULLOVER IS FINISHED! I can’t believe it, it went so fast the last few days. I still need to block it, but it already fits me perfectly! Can’t wait for winter!

  • August 27th: Final submission post 1760

  • November 17th: I’m wearing it for the first time today. It’s raining cats and dogs outside, with only 10 °C, and I feel so warm and cosy in my super pullover, love it!!!
