Putting a little 80s back in my closet, with an update. Back in 10th grade, I had a dark blue sweater with a rainbow of hearts in a stranded pattern across the chest and sleeves (store-bought sweater). Now Iām making myself a cardigan version with the hearts moved up to the yoke, in a dark purple with three bands of hearts, each a different color.
The B/W photo at left is the original sweater in a photo from my 10th grade school yearbook.

Mods/Notes:
- Used invisible increases worked into the stitch below and twisting to work tbl. Added a nice, subtle texture without looking too obvious and without leaving any holes.
- Moved 2nd, 3rd and 4th sets of yoke increases up to 1.875ā, 3.75ā, and 5.625ā from cast on to allow enough room for the heart motifs between 4th set of yoke increases and sleeve increases just before dividing.
- Followed size 40 for back, size 42 for sleeves, size 44 for fronts. Cast on 98 to start; had 367 sts after completing all yoke increases. Modified stitch count of back slightly (+1) for heart motif to be centered properly.
- After finishing heart motifs, I increased 7 sts evenly across each front.
- When I divided for sleeves, I had: 60 sts on each front; 78 sts on each sleeve; 109 sts on back.
- Worked 1 purl stitch at each side of the body from armholes down for a faux seam.
