Notes

This was a test for Romi Hill.
I would definitely make this again.
It’s an interesting construction, and I had a lot of fun working through the different sections. I love the lace pattern and the sturdy fit, and how the edges fold in nicely.
I found the pattern clear and easy to follow.
All techniques are explained, and Romi has great instruction videos. I liked especially the Russian join video, to attach new yarn, and the modified 3-needle-BO video (I should have seen this video before doing the BO, but looked only at the pictures which didn’t make it clear to me, but the video did).
For adding length, rows could be added in C2, C3 and C4 (I added 3x2 rows in each of these, because of tighter row gauge, and am happy with the final result).

Romi allowed to share progress pictures of this test on Ravelry. Short notes under my pictures show which section I worked on.

Measurements before washing:

  • Body length, measured from armhole down to bottom of body: 32 cm.
  • Body width, measured und the armholes: 63 cm.

Measurements washed and dried:

  • Body length, measured from armhole down to bottom of body: 34 cm.
  • Body width, measured und the armholes: 64 cm.

Gauge:
Swatch gauge, washed (3.0 mm needles):
25 sts, 33-34 rows = 10 cm.
The swatch was not stretched, only pinned down. So the cardigan might be stretched a bit horizontally, and more in the length when blocking.
I tried this with the swatch and it should work. (The gauge was written as stretched in 1st test version, but got corrected to only wash and let dry - I hope my row gauge won’t come out too tight.)

Swatch gauge unwashed was about 26 sts, but luckily the sweater gauge is looser than this.

Sweater gauge unwashed (3.0 mm needles):
Measured in section 4, stockinette: 23.5 sts, 34 rows.

Sweater gauge washed, stockinette:
23 sts and 32 rows = 10 cm.

Needles:
Main needle: 3.0 mm (Addi lace)
DPN: 2.5 mm because I don’t own a 2.75 mm needle - tried not to work too tight.

Size:
Size 4. I’m between two sizes, so if the cardi gets a bit tighter, it should fit me even better.

Yarn amount used total:

  • C1: 95 g
  • C2: 79 g
  • C3: 90 g (a: 30 g; b: 60 g, of this about 20 g for sleeves)
  • C4: 82 g

Yarn amount when starting/ progress details:

  • C1 Apple green 8514 (dye lot 734878 and 749134): (1) 51 g. From beginning to end of section 4 “Shape shoulders” - 28 g used (23 g left). For section 6 used 11 g (12 g left). Used up in section 7 at 7th additional repeat of row 3-4. Skein (2) attached with Russian join. All 51 g of skein (1) used. (2) 10 g. From middle of section 7 to end of C1 part. All 10 g of skein (2) used. (3) 52 g (new dye lot), attached at start of section 9 to end of section 10: 34 g of skein 3 used so far (28 g left). C1 used total: 95 g (51+10+34).

  • C2 Tan (darker green) 9544 (dye lot 774192): (1) 49 g. For section 5 - 26 g used (23 g left). Continued with section 8 as C2 to end of same section; used for section 8: 15 g (8 g left, not used). 41 g of skein (1) used so far. (2) 50 g. Attached in section 10 as C2. 14 g used for section 10 (36 g left). 14 g used for section 11 (12 g left). C2 used total: 79 g (41+38). Not used: (3) 39 g.

  • C3a: Mint green 9022 (773674), 48 g. Used for section 12 as C3a from start to chart end: 30 g (12 g left).

  • C3b: light blue 7212 (two different dye lots). (1): 50g. Used for section 12 as C3b after chart to end: 40 g (10 g left after body, all used for 1st sleeve). (2): 22 g - 10 g used for 2nd sleeve (12 g left). C3b used total: 60 g.

  • C4: dark petrol 6554 (734874). (1): 50g: used up about 2 cm down in textured rib, skein (2) attached there. (2): 48 g: From 2 cm down in textured rib to end: 82 g used total (16 g left).

  • Short sleeves: C3b (light blue): leftovers from body (skein 1, 10 g): all used for first sleeve. Skein (2): 9-10 g used.

Progress:
March 14: Start, chart almost done.
March 15: Section 4 done
March 16: Section 5 done
March 17: Section 6 done
March 18: Section 7 done
March 19: Section 8 and 9 done
March 20: Section 10 done
March 21: Sleeves bound off, section 11 done
March 22: Continued with section 12 and bound off neck sts
March 25: Section 12: C3 finished, continued with C4
March 28: Whole section 12 (body) and first sleeve finished.
March 29: All finished.
March 30: Washed and dried.

Project notes:

  • Section 7: It was helpful to place a marker on working needle to mark the additional repeats of rows 3-4 (placed after first 15 sts on working needle for size 4). Section 7 ends with 70 sts on working needle and 31 sts on DPN.
  • Sleeve stitches bound off at end of section 11, to get the stitch holders out of the way.
  • To lengthen the body, I worked 6 additional rows (3 × 2 rows) for C2, C3 and C4.
