Notes

Pattern notes:

  • Versatile design with an easy and repetative lace part, keeping the knitting interesting.
  • I love the fit of this slipover and would make it again.
  • The short rows and back/front shoulder shaping are good described and easy to follow.
  • A note about joining to the round: In the first setup round, a new BOR is placed, 6 sts before the rib ends. After the setup rounds, the sides are worked in broken rib. This means that since the new round starts before the side rib ends, one has to be careful to follow next rnd’s pattern from BOR. - It’s not difficult, but one has to focus at this point.
  • Neckline front stitches cast on: I used the cable cast on as written in pattern, but as a purled cable cast on.

Modifications:

  • I mostly followed the pattern, but adapting it for my different row gauge (notes below).
  • Because I wanted more length, I started with the hem at 27 cm from armhole.

My slipover measurements washed:
A - bust/body circumference: 102 cm
B - Cross back: 34.5 cm
C - armhole depth: 25.5 cm
D - Body length from underarm: 28 cm
E1 - Front hem: 6.5 cm
E2 - Back hem: 8 cm

Yarn amount used total:
5.92 skeins = 787.4 meters (861.4 yards), 296 grams

My needles:
3.0 mm (neck) and 3.5 mm (main needle).

Gauge:
- Pattern gauge, washed:
22 sts/ 33 rows
- My slipover gauge, with needle 3.5 mm (larger needle):
Unwashed:
22 sts/ 32 rows on upper front (worked flat)/ 32 rows on body (worked in the round)
Washed:
22 sts/ 31 rows on upper front (worked flat). 22 sts/ 30.5 rows on body (in the rnd)

I had to watch the length because of the row gauge difference, and shortened the length before the armhole increases.

  • 1 cm less/ 3 rows less per 10 cm.
  • About 1 cm less for armhole length = 14 cm before increases, to compensate for the following 28 inc rows and growing during washing (1 row per 10 cm). Measured later at upper front, I got unwashed 22 sts/ 32 rows (first, I measured 33 rows on my swatch).

Other notes:

  • Armhole row 1-4 repeated until armhole edge measured 14 cm: 9 repeats (+ the first 4 row repeat).
  • Hem started at 27 cm from armhole. The body was expected to grow 2-3 cm after washing, but did grow only 1 cm = 28 cm to hem.
  • Tubular BO worked, as described in pattern.

Skeins, details:
51+52+50+50+49+44=296 g used total
(1) 51 g. 8 g used for swatch, 43 g left. All used for upper back.
(2) 52 g, attached at armhole shaping and cut - 7 g used (45 g left). Reattached at left front and used 6 g (39 g left). Reattached at right front and used up 1 cm from joining to round.
(3) 50 g, attached at 1 cm from joining to round. Used up ca 10 cm from armhole.
(4) 50 g, attached ca 10 cm from armhole. Used up.
(5) 49 g, attached ca 19 from armhole and used up.
(6) 51 g, attached at last rows on front hem. Used for back hem and neck too, 44 g of skein used, 7 g left at the end.
