Actual start date of KAL = June 22.
This will be my Sunday “me-time” project. :)
June 23: Clue 1 of 5 started/finished.
It took me a while to get used to having this BFL in my hands. I’ve been using a lot of the softer fibers lately (cashmere, silk, possum, etc.) so this felt a little rough at first. By the end of clue 1, I had forgotten about the feel and was thinking, “This is going to block WONDERFULLY!” I’m looking forward to next weekend’s clue.
This shawl doesn’t call for beads, but I’m in a beading frame of mind these days so mine will likely be beaded. I just can’t help myself! We’ll see what clue 2 says to me.
Well, clue 2 screamed “BEADS!” So did clue 3, which I finished on July 20 (after having it in hibernation for an entire week because I left my iPad, i.e., Knitting Companion, someplace.) Started clue 4 but I’m still a week behind the KAL. :(
July 28: Finished clue 4 … On to the last clue which, of course, says “bead me!” Easy clue that will go quickly except for the bead rows.
August 1: Finished clue 5 with quite a bit of yarn leftover. Created my own “part 6” (based on 5) to use it up (pic #7) Still beading …
August 3: Finished my extra 20 rows with yarn leftover. Haven’t weighed remaining but guestimate that I have maybe 20-30 yards left. Bound off with a size 8 since I tend to be a little tight. Now to block and photograph.
August 14: Finally blocked and steamed. I did add some glycerine to my Soak since the BFL wasn’t feeling as soft as I wanted it to. Blocked folded in half so my points would be symmetrical and center spine straight, then steamed out the center fold.
This is only my second (first finished) laceweight piece but I’m hooked. I love it! Very glad that I took the added time to add beads. They’re giving a little pop of brilliance in this large piece.
Will likely modify future projects to be three panels instead of two. I’m vertically challenged and horizontally blessed so I’d benefit from more width than length. :)
Love this yarn. It blocked wonderfully and is keeping its shape perfectly. Gotta add more to my stash.
