This is my first time working with LOFT. It feels a little fragile to me - I broke the yarn while knitting (gentle tug, not a yank) and also while winding (gently by hand) and so I’m knitting this piece with great care and there will be no aggressive blocking for LOFT!
UPDATE: They say “reading is fundamental” … I finally looked at the INSIDE of the skein wrapper which says, “This yarn may require a slightly gentler touch than some knitters are used to …” DUH … Guess I should start looking in my wrappers for important details.
DECEMBER: I absolutely LOVE the texture in this pattern. Thorn is simple enough to remember each section’s pattern (which is what I need during my current frazzled-mind-melted phase) but still very interesting at the same time. I did frog and begin again because I didn’t like the major curl-up I was getting on the edge. Mod pattern to k edge stitches on both sides. That decision may bite me in the ass when it comes to picking up for the edge but I don’t care. Actual yarn color is somewhere between the bright and dark colors in my pictures. Crazy camera makes color look different with every shot. :(
JANUARY 31: Finished section A, nearly at the end of skein one. This has been my tv-watching project so it’s been moving slowly. Upping status to “to go” project so I can get it finished!
FEBRUARY: I really do love working with this yarn. It feels terribly dry to the touch, however, and it makes me want to keep putting lotion on my hands. :) Started skein 3 and part C simultaneously. BTW, this yarn works perfectly for felt-joining ends -- you can’t even tell where the join is. This also means I’ll only have two strands to weave in when I’m done.
MARCH: Finally finished this piece. Life has been so hectic lately that I feel like I’m not accomplishing anything. :( This Thorn, however, makes me feel WONDERFUL! It’s a great pattern. I did add another complete section as I had the yarn (and we busty women can use a little extra size in our wraps). Then I added a few more rows of garter border before doing Jeny’s bindoff. Had about 3 yards left over. Fab-u-lous! Now to block.
MAY 1: Finally soaked (with Soak), blocked and steamed this magnificent beast and it’s fabulous! The yarn bloomed and softened up quite nicely and subtle color variations in the yarn seem to have more … something. It’s just so darn fabulous! Happy that I used all of my yarn - we big girls need things to wrap all the way around our bodies and the 75” I got out of this piece does the trick!
