The pattern calls for coarse and fine Shetland wool (one of which is later referred to as Pyrenees) which should be two lace weight yarns, one of which is spun tighter than the other. I chose instead to use a fingering weight wool for the loosely knit section, but I don’t think it will be a problem. It’s still nice and light.

I needed size 9 needles to get the gauge of 4 st./in. given in the pattern (47 st. in 11.75”). The “steel knitting needles, the size taken for common cotton stockings” I took to be a 000.
