I loved knitting this shawl for Erin! The lace/garter combination is so sweet, and makes for a fun knit. The increases along the sides of the shawl are really steep (an average of 3 sts per side per row) which meant that the edges of the chart change rapidly enough that I had to check the chart for those few stitches every single RS row … but otherwise the chart was easy to memorize and relaxing to knit.

The BO took an hour. But it looks great and stretches beautifully! Well worth it.

I tend to knit my edges tightly, so on this project (because of the rapid increases along the sides of the shawl) that resulted in an edge that was way tighter than the rest of the fabric. I blocked it around in a curve, stretching the edges as much as I could and just letting the rest of the fabric flow around them (visible in the last picture) -- it worked great, and resulted in a shawl that’s even easier to wear than it would’ve been otherwise, I think. If I were to try for a straight edge on my shawl next time, I’d probably do a 2-stitch edge that was K1 yo K1, with the YO dropped on the following row each row.
