Notes

Mods: to make socks the same size as that shown in the original pattern using a smaller gauge (37 sts =4”) or to make larger socks using the gauge listed in the original pattern. Note that these directions are the ONLY pieces of the original pattern that are changed; anything not listed here is the same as in the original pattern.

Big Toe

  • cast on 20 sts (10 per needle)
  • inc at both ends of both needles every other rnd until you have 56 sts.

Mid Toe
- inc on both sides of COR every other rnd until you have 84 sts.

LEFT SOCK:
Inner ankle
- Rep Rounds 7 and 8 until there are 98 sts total, 14 sts between ankle markers (7 on either side of COR marker).

Increase mini-gusset:
- Just as written; 116 sts total, 26 sts between ankle markers (13 on either side of COR marker).

Heel shaping:

  • Round 1, after 2nd ankle marker: k2, LLinc, k12, ssk, k1, place heel marker, k1, k2tog, k to end (there will be 17 sts between 2nd ankle marker and heel marker).
  • Rep Rounds 1-4 twice more, then Rounds 1-3 once. There are 125 sts total, 42 sts between ankle markers (21 on either side of COR marker).

Heel-joining round:
- K to first ankle marker; this is now the COR position. K around to previous COR; this is the new end of rnd. Transfer next 17 sts (up to heel marker) to a dpn and remaining 17 sts to another dpn. With a separate length of yarn, graft the two sets of 17 sts together. - - There remain 49 sts before new COR for front of leg, 42 sts after new COR for back of leg.

Decrease mini-gusset:
- Repeat Rounds 1-4 6 times total, then rnd 1 once: 42 sts before COR and 42 sts.

Leg:

  • Short row pair one (set-up row) needle 1: K41 (until 1 st remains before COR), turn; with WS facing, slp 1, p37 (to last 3 sts before beg of rnd), p2tog, p1, do not turn.
  • Short row pair two – needle 2: Continuing with WS facing, p41 (until 1 st remains before COR), turn; with RS facing, slp 1, k37 (to last 3 sts before beg of rnd), SSK, k1, do not turn.
  • Short row pair 3: Continuing with RS facing, k38 (until 2 sts remain before gap from previous turning), turn; with WS facing, slp 1, p34 (to last 3 sts before beg of rnd), p2tog, p1, do not turn.
  • Short row pair 4: Continuing with WS facing, p38 (until 2 sts remain before gap from previous turning), turn; with RS facing, slp 1, k34 (to last 3 sts before beg of rnd), SSK, k1, do not turn.
  • Short row pair 5: K35, turn; slp 1, p31, p2tog, p1, do not turn.
  • Short row pair 6: P35, turn; slp 1 k31, SSK, k1, do not turn.
  • Short row pair 7: K32, turn; slp 1, p28, p2tog, p1, do not turn.
  • Short row pair 8: P32, turn; slp1, k28, SSK,
  • Begin following original Short Row Pair 5 through Short Row Pair 24. 58 sts.
  • First set-up round: K2, LLinc to last st before COR, k1, sl marker, k1, RLinc, k2 to last 2 sts, RLinc, k1, transfer last st to beg of rnd. 86 sts.
  • Second set-up round: As written. 84 sts.

This yarn was in my prize pack from the Socks Revived design contest. I wouldn’t have picked the colorway in a store (mostly because I’m not crazy about variegated yarns), but I love how it turned out in the sock, and I LOVE the base yarn. Yummy.
