Notes

Starting the Groovyghan as a CAL with the Vanna group.

Update 8: Tulip Square
Also made from 75 Floral Blocks to Crochet. Good practice for intarsia, and refreshing to make right at the end of winter when the tulip bulbs are just starting to poke through the ground. Pattern link here.

Update 7: Three Daisy Square
I got into a slump trying to find the “right” pattern to finish this up. I had some ideas in mind, but nothing was matching up. Then I found 75 Floral Blocks to Crochet at the Library, and I was inspired again. This is the first of two patterns I found from the book that I plan to use in this afghan. These were soooo easy and satisfying to make. Link to the pattern page is here.

Update 6: Matilda, the granny Square with Heart
I love love love this simple and pretty granny heart square. I think it fits perfectly with the groovyghan! Square pattern here.

Update 5: Squaring the Big Circle
Perfectly groovy, guys! Found here, easy to make and a great pattern overall.

Update 4: On the Huh
When I think of groovy, this On the Huh pattern is a definite addition! I couldn’t believe what a fun and easy pattern this turned out to be.

Update 3: Flower (from pattern)
Made as instructed, cute square.

Update 2: Daisy Square*

The pattern is here: Daisy Square.

This square seems to be used a lot in the groovyghan project pages & I wanted to use it as well. My mods were very minimal - I used blo in rounds 3 and and second to last outline. I added a row of hdc at the end to equal 8”

Update 1: Dots (in pattern)
Used CC on round 4, back to MC on round 5, then back to CC for the square. DC in blo for rounds 3, 4, and 5 for more circular definition. Squares are 8”. Made 8.

Color Selection
Intended color scheme:

  • Oatmeal
  • Espresso
  • Scarlet
  • Terracotta
  • Aqua
  • Fern
  • Honey
  • Mustard
  • Magenta
  • Dusty Purple
  • Eggplant
  • Soft Pink
  • Chocolate

I had to adjust the color scheme a little than my original inspiration card because no one around me seems to carry more than a handful of vanna colors

I know there are more colors here than called for, but I am going to make the afghan a bit bigger and add a couple of extra squares. And I really like the color groupings of this picture.
