Notes

20.03.2016

Frogged 4 Times in the first few rows,

Now I’m finally getting it right.

22.03.2016

30 rows done. Am I good or what|?

Have to take care of my counting. This is a pretty tough monster :)

25.03.2016

It becomes something recognizable now. What a beautiful pattern!

I like elke’s yarn very much.

29.03.2016

Now the third color is starting. I am totally excited about the shawl, whenever I have the time I knit

05.04.2016

I just finished the fourth repeat, but the shawl is way too small for me. I’ll probably do 6 repeats in all, or until I run out of yarn.

I thought it was a good idea to use two connected addi click cables now (to make the cable 1.5 meters). I had a few very scary minutes when the coupling uncoupled itself in the middle of the shawl and I had to fix a hundred stitches. Fortunately I encountered only one place where the stitches dropped more than 2 rows, and the damage was contained.

06.04.2016

I wrote to the customer service of Addi today, asking them if they could send a replacement, because the coupling I got with my needles is too lose.

They replied within the hour and promised to send a replacement. WOW!!

07.04.2016

I just received the new replacement couplings. WOW.
Customer service at it’s best.

I love my AddiClick needles (made in Germany)

The shawl is growing everyday. Soon it’s going to outgrow my table.

I’m at the third last color. So I got 3 Inches or so before I’m finished. Kinda sad thought.

21.04.2016

I am knitting row 23 of the 7th repitition of the main pattern, and lo and behold, my hope came true, the last color change occured in the 2nd quarter. Now I have the 24th row left, and then stat the 8 rows border pattern.

Now the yarn is white only, where before the color of one or more of the 4 stranded yarn was always another color.

It was a lot of fun knitting with this beautiful yarn. I don’t think I’ll ever regret having chosen it for this project.

22.04.2016

I am knitting the last row. I encountered some difficulties with the & because I am using combined knitting.
Turn 2 loops, don’t complete knitting but return them to the left needle, where the third is waiting to get knitted and knit all 3, with the 1st and 2nd loop being in reverse order AND turned.

Additionally I found the weight of the whole shawl is dragging the loops wider, so I just omitted the loop after the & and added it on the way back, so all loops stay reasonably tight

22.04.2016

I’m binding off.

I’m too lazy to figure out how to translate the instructions to combination knitting, so I use my favorite crochet bind off: knit 1 , knit1 (with the hook), then pull the thread through the 2 loops. This gives a nice flexible border.

As luck has it, yarn runs out 1/4 through the bind off. Now I need to utilize the generous gift I got earlier, which is a cone with some leftovers of the yarn I got. I just have to cut 4 strands to continue…

My trusty old Pfaff 362 did it again. Using 4 bobbins I had the yarn ready in no time.

WOW it’s finished. I like the 3D effect very much, I don’t like to think about blocking this beautiful shawl. I finished it in time for my birthday!

28.04.2016

Finally I washed the shawl (machine wash on handwash setting, because it smelled of all the sweat and tears it took to make it).
Then I blocked it on the playground mat of my son. WOW It’s BIG. And beautiful.
