Notes

Began with “Doily A” for a simple circle. I liked the cross in the middle and the 8 parts, like the wheel of the year.
Now, where to go from here?…
After the necessary doubling of sts, how about a spiral stitch…
R41) yo, p
R42) begin spiral stitch, but because of YO placement need to start with p2 and finish with p1

May 3 - finished up the handspun. Need three-four more rows to complete this portion of Pi shaping. Then switching to short rows to make it square.

But first I need yarn. And I’d like it to be handspun. And blue. So…. plan right now is to dye the white Romni roving blue and then spin it. Green earth. Blue sky surrounding? Or ocean. Will see what the design becomes…

Feb 2012 - clearly I decided against dying the Romni. I want to stick with the same fiber. Ordered two more braids from To Ply Fiber Arts in a slightly different, earthy colourway - Snowy Pines.

June 3, 2014 - um, yeah, been a while. See, there was this problem in Feb 2012 where my spindle with some of the spun fibre and some more to be spun went missing from my vehicle during an ultrasound appointment. That rather put me off spinning for the project.
And then there was the twin pregnancy and the moving, and the twins.
But eventually, earlier this spring, a started spinning again. Got one ball spun and plied on a Turkish again. And it sat languishing for a while as I stared at the large pile of fibre remaining.
So I whipped up the rest on the wheel. Knit and made stuff up as I went. Bound off… and got 3/4 the way around. Picked my stitches back up, measured and knew I had more than 3x the circumference of yarn. Thought I’d do a sewn BO, but there was just too much yarn to sew with! Opted for a YO BO, figuring with 3x I should be good (first BO was a P1, P2tog, so two rows of sts)… and got to about 20 sts remaining. Well I wasn’t about to pick up sts again! Nor did I want to tink another row - it was perfect as is. Found two fingering yarns, BFL to match fibre, in green and brown - held double I finished my BO.
Now I have my lap blankie.
Yes, MINE.
Because what I need in 30 degree heat is a lap blankie!
Now if you don’t mind, it’s late and I’m going to go snuggle my blankie in bed.
