Notes

I followed all of my friend Ashley’s great advice. Her notes regarding the yo edge, carrying the colors and the stretchy bind-off are great.

Key stuff:

  • Choose colors that you can really differentiate, that are sufficiently different from each other so you can clearly see the three colors used in your project and each shines in its own way. If you use colors that blend too much you will somewhat loose the beautiful color effect of the pattern.
  • Decide how to do you edging, I did the yo version and I still got a crescent shape. You can find the exact directions on how to do this in Ashley’s notes.
  • As soon as you add the second color decide how to carry your yarn colors on the edges. I carried the yarn on the edge around the first stitch using this. I absolutely recommend this method (Also copied that from Ashley)
  • If you are confused about the short rows, this is what the pattern means: each short row grabs 4 sts from the row below (knit the wrapped st + 3 sts, then wrap the following st)
  • I wasn’t happy about the fact that the three color section did not go all the way to the other edge of the shawl so I did two extra repeats of the pattern for a total of 10 repeats. That got me to about 8 sts from the other edge. The shawl turned out a little bit longer this way, but I love it anyway.
  • Select a stretchy cast-off of your preference. I used Jeny’s surprisingly stretchy bind off.

I did a total of 6 and 1/2 repeats for the dark border. I am pretty happy with the width.

I love how this turned out. I love even more the color combination. I got help from my friends from our Urban Yarns S&B night to decide on these and I am VERY happy with them.

I anticipate a lot of wearing this winter.
