Another little aran cardigan for an 18” doll.

This one is a cable stitch pattern modelled by my new doll Samantha.

Here is how I made it:

Back
With 2.75 needles cast on 48 sts work rib and increase to 51 sts on last row.

Change to 3.25 mm needles and work pattern as follows:

Row 1: (p1, k1tbl, p1, k4, p1, k4) repeat 3 times, p1, k1tbl, p1

Row 2 and every alternative row: k where k and p where p

Row 3: (p1, k1tbl, p1, c4f, p1, c4b) repeat across.

Row 4: As 2nd row.

Carry on in pattern working cable row on every 3rd row until 6” leave sts on needle.

Right Front:

Cast on 30 sts work rib, making a buttonhole in the 3rd row. When you have worked the desired number of rib rows, with wrong side facing increase 3 sts in the first 25sts (27) and place remaining 6 sts onto a safety pin for buttonhole border.

Row 1: (p1, k1tbl, p1, k4, p1, k4) twice, p1, k1tbl, p1

Work as for back until 4.5 inches

Cast off 3 sts at neck edge on next row and dec 1 sts at neck edge on every row until 20 sts. Work straight until front measures same as back.

Left Front

Work as for right front, making a button border and placing as opposite end to the buttonhole border on right front.

Sleeves:

With 2.75 needles cast on 29 sts work rib and increase in last row to 37 sts.

1: (p1, k4, p1, k1tbl p1, k4) 3 times, p1.
2: k where k and p where p
3: (p1, c4b, p1, k1tbl, p1, c4f, p1, c4b
4: as 2nd
5: increase 1st at each end (39)
Carry on with pattern until desired length.

You just finish it like any cardigan.

Sew shoulder seams.

On button border side put saved sts back on the needles and rib up the front of the cardigan until it fits, when slightly stretched, to the neck edge. Sew in place. Leaving the stitches on a safety pin.

Mark where you want the buttons to be placed, leaving space for the last button to be placed in the neckband.

Repeat on the button-hole side, making the button-holes to correspond with the markings on the button band.

Then pick up stitches around the neck, picking up the sts from the safety pin on the button side.

Work a few rows of rib, placing button hole in next row.
