Notes

Just before Christmas, my grandmother asked if I could knit a shawl for her. I knit one for her in 2009 that she still has and loves, but asked for something in red. After hunting through my stash I made the appropriate decision and purchased a bunch of yarn including four balls of hollyberry.

I found this pattern and after going through the helpful notes sections of Several FO’s I cast on last night.

Notes to help people.

read the first few pages at least and get familiar with the patten written and charted versions do not mention the edge k3 or the centre stitches, only the pattern, so you have to keep track of those stitches while knitting.

I marked the wrong side pattern rows in an alternate colour so I would pay closer attention. This is going to get difficult for section three since every row is patterned but I’m still only in chart one.

I’m highlighting every row I finish and it helps to keep a couple of pens handy to mark the different stitch legends. I’ll post a couple of pictures how I’ve marked out a legend down the line.

As of Jan 27 I cast on. The pattern is fiddly but not too bad so far. It is easy to get lax and not twist a cable right so it’s definitely not a mindless pattern.
